This is a public awareness campaign targeting family violence and sexual assault within the Aboriginal community.
The objectives of the Indigenous Family Violence and Sexual Assault Awareness Campaign are to:
• improve relationships between the local Indigenous community and Victoria Police;
• increase community awareness and understanding of the impacts of family violence and sexual assault;
• identify strategies for victims of family violence and sexual assault;
• achieve increased reporting of family violence by Aboriginal communities and in the longer term, provide an overall reduction of the incidence of violence ?and sexual assault against women and children in these locations; and
• engage with the Aboriginal community in order to identify local issues specific ?to family violence and sexual assault.
The campaign was managed by Victoria Police but the four television commercials were developed by Wayne Tindall working with NBS Productions and in partnership with local Aboriginal communities in the Grampians Region to ensure they are responsive to local issues. Once again the results have been outstanding with local people fronting the commercials with astounding frankness and power. The advertisements are currently airing across this part of Victoria."
                       data-id="102">

                                Indigenous Anti Violence Campaign – Grampians Region Victoria

                                    <a class="vvimeo origincode_videogallery_item group19"
                       href="//player.vimeo.com/video/96763856"
                       title="The No Good Aye Anti Smoking Aboriginal Campaign in Gippsland Victoria"
                       data-description="Wayne Tindall recently completed a successful Indigenous anti violence campaign in the East Gippsland region in Victoria Australia. This was part of The Clean Air Project to create an Anti Smoking TV advertising and general awareness campaign in the region.
The desired target audience was broad being:
• Young people that had never smoked
• Young people who smoked
• Mum’s and Dad’s who smoked at hoe and around the kids
• Pregnant mums
• Middle aged parents and singles and
• Elders

Wayne proposed that they use a fairly ‘hard hitting’ approach without ‘preaching directly at existing smokers but rather by using a family/community perspective to get the message across.

He felt that by using a selected group of young people in the production process and by documenting this process and placing ‘behind the scenes’ clips on dedicated facebook/twitter pages, a great deal of local, national and even international interest would be generated.

Together with the support of the client group, he secured a small group of Indigenous youths who committed to work with us to come up with initial ideas and help with all stages of production in exchange for some formal and professional training in mainstream film and television production.

The idea was that by involving the community at all levels in the actual creative act of this campaign, the key messages would be absorbed by a process of ‘osmosis’, and pride and self esteem would be elevated thus creating a platform from which to build dialogue around an ‘anti smoking’ message.

CREW IN TRAINING
All young people involved were exposed to all aspects of pre production, production and post production including ‘pitching’ the ideas to the steering committee and answering all questions ‘thrown at them’.
They were exposed to full broadcast standard production processes with a great deal of ‘hands on’ experience which resulted in a “making of” DVD shot entirely by the young crew.

FINANCIAL RETURN TO COMMUNITY
All young people involved were paid well over equity rates for every hour they put in. Actors or (talent) were drawn from the community and were also paid above equity rates for their performances. This resulted in a great ‘buy on’ from the community itself as well as much needed funds flowing back to the target audience in a way that was positive and helped ‘drive the messages home’.

MAINSTREAM MEDIA INTEREST
It was envisaged from the start of this campaign that the ‘real message’ would be driven home by creating a ‘buzz’ in the community to such an extent that the TVC’s themselves became a supplement. At the time of writing this has already proven to be the case well before the official launch and the ads going to air.
1. ABC radio did a story on day 2 of production arriving ‘on set’ and interviewing the young crew and filming segments for their ‘On Line’ Blog.
The radio story went to air the next day.
2. The Bairnsdale Advertiser did a front-page story on the third day of production which was seen by a wide audience.
3. Wayne played the finished TVC’s and the final cut of the “making of” DVD to the young trainees and filmed their reactions.
