Mungo Dreaming

Over the past few years I have traveled to Mungo in an attempt to keep myself sane; to lose myself in the silence. To find myself in the voices. It’s here I get to find God, the Devil and myself.

Human remains of Mungo Man and Mungo Woman were found here and have been carbon dated to over 40,000 years old. There is much speculation and debate in scientific circles, with some believing that there was human occupation in the region over 65,000 years ago! Many of the archaeological treasures have been exposed at Mungo through natural erosion rather than by means of organised archaeological exploration. Ancient artefacts, plant matter and animal bones can be found in their natural habitat along the ‘Great Walls of China’ or Lunettes– an amazing 33 kilometre stretch of Australian Sand dunes and lunettes, formed by centuries of sand storms.

My novel “The Great Divide” is set both here and in Lake Baikal in Siberia. Baikal holding the largest body of fresh water in the world; Mungo, a dry wilderness yet strangely live with spirits and voices.
These images are from my last trip.
